How to Sign up for Referee Clinics in 2010
This is a step-by-step guide to signing up for referee clinics in 2010. The process is a bit convoluted, as layers have been added to make sure the system works right. Please select the correct skill level below, and the screen will jump to the section with the directions you will need to follow:
| New Referee | Returning Grade 9 | Recertifying Grade 8 or Higher |
New Referees
We are thrilled that you have decided to join the referee ranks! Congratulations on making the decision to do so. Here's what you will need to do:
- Register with USSF
- Register with MNSDI.org
- Sign up for a Class on MNSDI.org
- Finish the Online Course Material
- Attend the Classroom Sesssion
- Attend the On-Field Session
Finally, attend the on-field session for the course. The on-fields are scheduled for five to seven hours, but you will actually only have to attend for three hours. There will be approximately 60 to 90 minutes of instruction, followed by 90 to 120 minutes of hands-on experience in scrimmages.
First navigate to www.ussoccer.info. You will see a screen that looks like this:
In the center of this screen (highlighted in the image above) is the "New User" link, which is what you will need to use. Clicking here will take you to a signup screen:
Fill out all of the required fields on this screen. This will create an account for you with U.S. Soccer. You will bump back to the log-in screen... log in with your new username and password. This will take you here:
Click on "Referee" on the left side menu a few times until you see the "Click Here to Register" option:
After you select this option, scroll down to the checkboxes that allow you to register for certain roles. You are going to select "Referee":
Now go down a bit further and make sure you answer the "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" question (hopefully not).
Finally, agree to the Terms and Conditions and submit payment by credit card. If you do not want to use a credit card, you will likely have to contact US Soccer directly to figure out how to pay your registration fee.
That's it... print your receipt and save it. This will also have your USSF ID number on it, which you should save for all future registrations as a referee. This number is your key to solving most any problem you might encounter down the road.
Alas, you're only part-way there. Now that you have registered with US Soccer, you will need to navigate to www.MNSDI.org. This is the Minnesota State Referee Instructional Program website. You will have to start by creating an account by using the button on the left side of the screen:
Follow the steps to create your account on the next page:
Your username and email address for the MNSDI site must be unique from any other account on the site. You should use your brand new USSF ID given to you by the US Soccer site and insert it here, no dashes. Set your Current USSF Grade to "New Referee."
Once you create your account, the MNSDI site will email you a confirmation email to the address you assigned to the account. On it will be a link with a confirmation code. You should be able to simply click on the link to activate the account, and you can log in using the username and password that you set up. Two steps down!
Once you are logged in, first you need to sign up for a Grade 9 course in Duluth. There are two offerings this spring. Use the menu on the left side of the screen :
Select Clinic Sign-up, then Grade 9. This will take you to a screen with all of the USSF Grade 9 courses offered in Minnesota this spring. Scroll down to one of the two Duluth options:
Select the course you want to attend, then click on "Update Clinic Enrollment." This will register you for the course.
Once you have registered for a course, you now need to do the online course material. Access to this can be found on the right side of the screen:
Ignore the message about the Grade 8 course; we do not use the two-day Grade 8 course in Duluth.
Use the yellow button under Online Grade 9 to start the online course. The course material is approximately 2-3 hours in length. At the conclusion of the videos, there is a 20 question test. You must score a perfect 20/20 on the test.
If you do not pass the test, you will be told which questions you missed and where in the videos to find the answers. However, when you retake the test, you will have to answer all 20 questions again. Write your answers down so you don't have to go through and re-read every question.
Once you pass thes test, you will be given a confirmation message stating you have completed this portion of your certification requirements. A copy of this meessage will be emailed to the account you associated with your MNSDI account.
On the date of your course, attend the four-hour classroom session. There will be an in-class test you have to take. Passing score will be 17/30 (as the combined score of the online and in-class tests must be 37/50).
Once you have completed these tasks, you will be certified as a USSF Grade 9 referee!
